Walnut Mouse Christmas Decoration 5

£12.50

A tiny felt grey mouse sleeps soundly in his little walnut shell.

I have been making these little ornaments at Christmas since I was a little girl. The walnuts are split carefully by hand and the little mouse is made of 100% wool felt stuffed with a tiny amount of carded new wool, finished with tiny hand embroidered eyes and a glass seed bead nose. The quilt is patchwork cotton print, and the little stocking is felt with a miniature tinsel trim stitched on by hand. There is a satin ribbon hanging loop. The small parts are all stitched together by hand before being glued into the walnut shell.

The quilt fabric on this ornament is special as it came from a box of fabric squares I bought in a Cape Cod thrift store in 1995. I was with my dear grandmother who emigrated to the US in her 80s. The fabric is very old, possibly even 1890s but certainly not later than 1920s. I made a quilt using most of it but these last precious pieces make cosy mouse beds.

Each mouse comes in his own gift box. The last two photographs are for scale. You will receive the mouse with the dark blue blanket in the first 2 photos.

This is not a toy. It is intended as a decorative item.
